It
may feel like it’s been around forever, but rock historians know
that though rock music is really just a toddler as far as genres go.
Some trace its baptism to the release of “Rock Around The Clock”
by Bill Haley and His Comets, which will see the 50th anniversary of
its release this summer. You can celebrate early when Bill Haley’s
Comets hit the Cadillac Club, 1115 S. Washington Ave. in Lansing’s
REO Town, at 8 p.m. with The Fabulous Oldies but Goodies Band. Tickets
are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. Call (517) 853-1912 for reservations.

The 14th
Annual Michigan Parade will begin at 11 a.m., beginning on
the 1200 block of South Washington Avenue. The parade will travel up
South Washington, past a reviewing stand at the Cadillac Club, 1115
S. Washington, continue through REO Town to Michigan Avenue and head
toward the Capitol. The parade will include tributes to Michigan agriculture,
Michigan State University’s 150-year celebration and the Michigan
International Speedway, among others. For more information, call the
parade headquarters at (517) 323-2000.

It
was such a success the first time around last fall that BoarsHead Theatre
is bringing “Over the Tavern” back for a special run May
18 to May 29. The play, written by Tom Dudzick, stars Carmen Decker
as Sister Clarissa, who is attempting to educate the clever young Rudy,
played by the precocious Colin Mallory. Also in the focus of the 1950s-set
story is Rudy’s family, hardly a Cleaver-style bunch. The production
is directed by Jane Page in her first effort for BoarsHead, located
at 425 S. Grand Ave. in downtown Lansing. Show times are at 7 p.m. Wed.
and Thur.; 8 p.m. Fri. and Sat.; and 2 p.m. Sun. Tickets are $25. For
reservations or more information, call (517) 484-7805.
