Work began within the last two weeks at this former gas station at the corner
of Oakland and Pennsylvania avenues. The supervisor of the four-man construction
crew said Monday that they are replacing the roof and will soon begin cleaning
up the interior of the building, which he said is still in decent shape. Planning
Director Jim Ruff said the city has been after the owner since last fall to
take care of the property, which should eventually be converted to a used car
dealership. The owner, James M. Christensen of Flint, owes the city of Lansing
more than $27,000 in delinquent property taxes in addition to about $500 for
grass and weed cutting, according to city records.
